Our Vineyards

Our Vineyards

Printhie has four vineyard sites that have been created to meet varietal needs ensuring quality fruit production. Each location has been carefully selected to encapsulate the terroir of the Orange cool climate region.

Watch the journey of our grapes from the vineyard to the bottle.

Printhie Vineyard

Planted in 1996, the 12 Ha Printhie vineyard nestles up to the winery and cellar door. Planted on a elevated north east facing site on the undulating hills of the property, this vineyard produces highly coloured and flavoured fruit. With the extinct volcano of Mt Canobolas as the picturesque backdrop this vineyard has ancient limestone derived soils making it perfect for the red varieties of Pinot Noir, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Pinot Gris that call this vineyard home.

Phalaris Vineyard

Similar to the Printhie vineyard, Phalaris faces north east and covers 20Ha of rolling hills. Surrounded by evergreen poplars, the vineyard is planted with Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and recently Pinot Gris varieties which thrive in this picturesque vineyard.

Millwood Vineyard

Printhie’s newest vineyard ‘Millwood’ is located on Mt Canobolas itself, near the village of Nashdale and is approximately 980m above sea level. Originally an apple orchard, 1.6Ha have been planted to vines whilst 11Ha remain as a productive heritage apple orchard. Situated at a higher altitude, the Millwood vineyard will provide Printhie with premium chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier for our Swift Sparkling range.

According to local orchardist history, Millwood was the property where pine trees were grown and then cut down at the mill just over the road to create the apple crates needed by the surrounding orchards. The large pine trees seen bordering most of Orange’s vineyards were originally planted to provide a wind break but would then to be cut down to make apple crates – a great example of sustainability.

Another picturesque vineyard, Millwood overlooks the valley to the North West of Mt Canobolas – a beautiful vista where the four seasons of Orange can be truly appreciated.

We are building a cellar door on this site so follow us on our socials or sign-up to our #TeamPrinthie emails to follow us on this journey.

Wattleview Vineyard

Wattleview vineyard is the highest vineyard in the Orange region at 1068 metres above sea level. It’s renowned for producing super premium fruit and we use it to make our Chardonnays.

We look after this vineyard for Carolyn and David Gartrell who have lived there for 50 years and planted the vineyard more than 20 years ago.
